Park City

A couple weeks ago I finished up a dryland high altitude training camp in Park City, Utah with the National Team. I was there for one day shy of two weeks, and I really enjoyed the time I spent training with the team. The first week and a half the weather was awesome, high twenties everyday with lots of sunshine, which makes training a lot more fun than if had been cold and rainy everyday. The last couple days the weather got a bit colder but still better than it could have been. The training itself wasn’t much different from what we would have been doing in Quebec. The idea of the camp wasn’t to be pounding out a ton of hours everyday, the idea was to do medium volume weeks with a little more intensity than normal at a higher than normal altitude. This helps stimulate the building of more red blood cells so when we go back down to a more normal altitude we’ll have more red blood cells in our systems which will be able to carry more oxygen to our muscles and hopefully help us go faster in races!

A normal training camp day would consist of a longer morning training, usually roller skiing, then another, shorter, training in the afternoon, usually either roller skiing again or running. About every three days we would have some sort in intensity training sessions.

After Park City I decided to go to Toronto with Lenny and hangout with him at his place during our rest week before joining the rest of the team back in Quebec. During our time there we joined his Dad and some family friends for a fishing trip near Lake Superior. I’ve fished a little bit in my life but still don’t have a ton of knowledge of the sport and I thoroughly enjoyed my time with the Valjas’, and hope to put some of my new found fishing knowledge to good use back home in the Yukon!

Here's a couple pictures from the past couple weeks:
