So another (and my last) Canada Games has come and gone…and it did not go at all how I had planned. It’s been about three weeks since I got sick on my Europe “B” tour trip, and I still haven’t been able recover 100%. I’m starting to get tired of having to ask myself the question of whether I should or shouldn’t race. If racing will make me even more sick or if it will help me get back into race shape. Even though I wasn’t feeling super great I told myself I mise well race because there might be a chance I would still be able to have a decent race…but it didn’t happen. I raced every race, and none of them were good. I placed 11th in the individual 10km skate race, 21st in the skate sprint, and 8th in the 15km classic. The last day was a 4 times 5km relay. Even though 4 out of our 5 guys on our men’s ski team were sick, we thought we should still have a good chance at a medal if everyone had an ok race. The race started out ok, with John Parry tagging off to Colin Abbott in 3rd, but Colin wasn’t feeling super great and lost a bit more time, tagging off to Ray Sabo in 4th. Ray lost a bit more time but tagged off to me still in 4th, but the gap to 3rd was too big and I wasn’t feeling super great either, so we ended up finishing in 4th. Which was a disappointing finish to a disappointing games for me and most of our mens team.
Now I’m going back home to the Yukon for quick visit to try and (FINALY!) recover and race well at the Canadian National Champs in Canmore, Alberta in a couple weeks.
