Dachstein

After many long hours of travel I’m finally back in Quebec. I just got back last night from a two and half week training camp on the Dachstein Glacier in Ramsau, Austria.
I must admit, when we first arrived in Ramsau, I was skeptical about the snow conditions.  A couple days before we arrived, the glacier received about 20cm of snow, but for whole time we were there, it was clear skis, sun, and warm temperatures.  This makes for great summer dry-land training, but it’s not so good for the snow.  In the end I was pleasantly surprised by how well the snow held up.  We did two blocks of five days of skiing on the glacier and the snow held up just long enough so we could get our full 10 days of skiing.  The conditions weren’t great, but good enough. If you knew where the rocks were, you could avoid them...well, most of them.
All in all I was satisfied with my camp.  It was nice to get back on snow and I feel like I was able to make some valuable technique improvements.

The first day we arrived there was still snow down in Ramsau, which made for a slippery roller ski track!

The owners of the hotel kept bees and made their own honey.  It was delicious.
