Nationals are over and so is the season. It feels good to be done. My last two races at Nationals didn’t go great. I felt super tired and “flat” in the skate sprint qualifier and didn’t make it into the heats. My sprinting has been very disappointing this year, I will definitely try to improve that for next year! The last race was the 50km classic. I didn’t feel very good right from the start of the race and after two (out of ten) laps I got dropped from the lead group. I skied alone for quite a while and was starting to get tired of being by myself so I slowed up a little bit and let a group of guys behind me catch up so I would have someone to ski with. I stayed with that group for the rest of the race and won the “group sprint” to the line to finish 15th. Overall at the end of the Championships I finished 2nd aggregate U23, and our club (Whitehorse Cross Country Ski Club) finished 2nd as well! Now the plan is to drive back to Whitehorse with teammate Knute Johnsgaard from here in Quebec. Yes, it will be a long drive at just over 6,000kms but it should be a good adventure! I’m looking forward to being back in the Yukon soon!
