Last Wednesday I left with the CNEPH Training Center for our last on snow summer training camp. We found a cheap flight which took us from Quebec City to Chicago, then eight hours later from Chicago to Munich, Germany. We rented three vans in Munich and drove three hours to Ramsau, Austria, to ski on the Dachstein Glacier. Our camp is broken into two blocks: five days of skiing on the glacier, three days of easier training off the glacier, then another five days of skiing back up on the glacier to finish the camp off. We’ve just finished our first block of skiing up on the glacier. The conditions aren’t as good as most of us had hoped…there is much, much less snow than last year, but it’s still surprisingly good skiing for how little snow there is. A typical day up on the glacier consists of a two and half hour ski in the morning, taking four hours off, then another hour and a half workout in the afternoon, sometimes a classic roller ski with double pole workouts or a run with some core/strength. The first block or training has gone well for me, feeling pretty good and have been able to get some good quality training hours. This is also the first training camp that everyone on the training center is here together, senior team and junior team, which is fun. Today is our only “rest” day of the training camp, everyone will go for a 30min to an hour easy run or roller ski in the morning and take the rest of the day off. Here are a couple pictures from the camp so far…
