Fun times back home

I guess it’s about time for a new update.

The last couple weeks I’ve been back home in Whitehorse. It was quite a fun couple of weeks for me, I got to do a lot of things: I went up to the Dawson Music Festival for a weekend, helped work on a little cabin my family is building on Lake Laberge, got to spend quite a bit of time out on the lake, water skiing and fishing, I went on a four day sheep hunting trip, and even got to go down to Skagway/Haines, Alaska for two days for a little fishing/boat trip with my Uncle and Aunt….and of course I’ve been able to get some great training in as well!

The mountain bike system in Whitehorse is great, there is a whole network of trails on Montana Mountain in Carcross which are awesome, and there is continuous work being done to improve the already great trails on Grey Mt in Whitehorse. While I was back I was able to spend quite a bit of time on the bike exploring these super fun trails. I was also able to get in a couple good road bike rides as well…twice I biked out to Carcross and back with my friend Sam Lindsey, who skis for UAA, which makes for about a good 110km ride.

I also went for my first sheep hunting trip with Andrew Craigen. We left for four days, and completed a good 37 hours of hiking at the end of our trip….our biggest day we hiked for 15 hours. We saw lots of sheep up in the alpine, about 40 ewes and lambs and maybe 20 rams, and about 4 out of those 20 that were legal. We were able to get quite close to two legal rams, almost close enough to get a clear shot, but they were a little jumpy since they had been shot at the day before by another group of hunters who came in my float plane, and they ran away before we were able to shoot.

Anyways, I’m now in the Vancouver airport, on my way to Québec for the remainder of the summer….well most of the remainder. We have a training camp in La Malbaie, Quebec next week, then at the end of September we have another training camp in Park City, Utah with the rest of the Canadian National Team. Then back to Quebec until the races start! (end of November).

Here's a couple pictures from the last couple weeks:

Water skiing on perfect conditions out at the lake.
Breakfast time up in the mountains on our sheep hunt
Looking down into a valley, it's really beautiful up there in the alpine
Testing out the new drum kit in our basement
A nice 30inch pike I caught out at the lake.
