Haig '10

I’m in Canmore, Alberta. I Got here about two weeks ago to do a ski training camp on the Haig Glacier. It was a small camp this year, just three athletes: Me, Julien Nury and Phil Widmer….Actually that’s not 100% true, Nova Scotia’s Ian Murray joined us for the first two days as well. The camp was short but sweet. Just 5 days up on the glacier (4 days of actual skiing).

We lucked out on the weather while we were up there, everyday during our morning skis we enjoyed clear skies and beautiful conditions. Then every afternoon it seemed to cloud up and rain, which was fine for us since we were only skiing in the morning. We did some stationary biking and core strength exercises in a couple of the afternoons but that could all be done indoors.

One thing I forgot to mention is the snow. There was quite a bit of snow up there for this time of the year. So much that we had to strap snowshoes on our backpacks and snowshoe the last hour and a half up the camp site. It was the first time I’ve ever had to do this, usually we can run all the way up to camp in about two and a half hours with normal running shoes and have dry feet when we arrive. But this time was much slower due to all the snow, it ended up taking us three hours and forty five minutes to run/hike/snowshoe up to camp.

Today we did the infamous five times one minute running intensities to finish the camp off. Then on July 2nd, I head back home to Whitehorse for a couple weeks. Julien and Len Valjas are coming up north with me for a week as well so it should be fun!
