The new season has started and things are looking good. About a week and a half ago I arrived in Quebec from Whitehorse. The weather has been really hot here (last week most days were over +30 C!) and training has been good. It’s good to get back in the familiar routine with the rest of the guys on the Training Center here in Quebec. Getting back into the gym twice a week at the University of Laval. Skate roller ski specific strength and speed workouts Wednesdays. Double pole and core workouts Fridays, and hard intensity workouts on the weekend, along with lots of other fun stuff in between. I bought some rock climbing shoes the other day at MEC and am looking forward to putting them to good use! I also bought a new mt bike (new for me) off Len Valjas (a Santa Cruz Chameleon). The last couple years I’ve been riding an old, really small Specialized Rockhopper, so it sure is nice to get a decent bike that actually fits me! The training volume is starting to go up as well, this week I just finished 17 hours and next week I have about 23. So needless to say, the training season is in full swing.
The housing situation stayed the same as it was last year. Me, Len Valjas, Phil Widmer and Brent McMurtry are living in a house in St-Ferreol-Les-Neiges, right near Mt St Anne, about a 40min drive from downtown Quebec City. The four of us just recently bought a van! The past couple years Len drove a car from Toronto that we used for the season, but this year that wasn’t an option so we looked about and ended up buying a 2002 Kia Sedona EX. It has 115,000 km on it and we paid $4,000 including taxes. It doesn’t have the best reliability ratings but we think I will be good for what we need it for.
Well…that’s about all I can think of for now….

Hey David, the photo of Schwatka is nice. Good luck with the Kia and your time in Quebec!
