SuperTour-West Yellowstone

This year to start the racing season I’m in West Yellowstone, Montana. I just finished the second of my two races here, which are part of the Super Tour racing circuit. The first race (15km skate) was a tough season opener for me. West Yellowstone is at about 2,000 meters elevation, which is pretty high, and I arrived just a day before the first race. During the race I was definitely feeling the effects of the elevation, I would recover a bit on the downhill and feel good starting up the next uphill but about 5sec into the hill it felt like I would hit a wall and get tired super fast and have to slow down a bit. I ended up finishing 28th, 3:03 min back of the winner. But I felt like I skied well and pushed hard, so I was happy enough with my race. It was a good training race!

Today was a 10km classic race. Again I was feeling the same symptoms of getting tired really quick, but I tried to ski long and smooth and efficient, and at the finish I felt satisfied with how the race went considering the circumstances. I ended up finishing a lot better than yesterday, I think I finished in 15th place, just 44sec off the winner.

Tomorrow morning I’m going back to Canada, and to Silverstar/Sovereign Lake, BC to train and prepare for my next races which are the NorAm/Canada Cup races at the Sovereign Lake Nordic Center.
