Lake Placid Super Tour

Since there wasn’t too much going on in the racing scene in Canada, some of us from the Quebec Training Centre decided to make the 5 hour drive down to Lake Placid, New York for some Super Tour (sort of the American equivalent of a Canada Cup/NoAm) races this past Friday and Saturday.

Friday’s 10km classic race was an unusual one. We did 5 laps of a 2km course. The first 1km was all uphill, and the next 1km was all downhill back into the stadium. You don’t see too many courses like this one, but it was kind of fun to have something different, even if it’s not a super good course for me. I had an ok race, I paced myself well but felt a little more tired than normal throughout the race. I finished 10th Open Man, and 3rd U23, which isn’t too bad.

Saturday’s 15km skate race was again an unusual one, but this time being the exact opposite of Friday’s race. We raced three laps of a really flat, and “easy” 5km loop. The night before it snowed quite a bit making the snow conditions really soft…and let’s just say that having 400 other racers going around the same loop again and again didn’t make it any firmer… but again, I felt like I paced myself well, but I didn’t feel like I had much energy. Maybe all the racing from last week was catching up to me. I finished 14th Open Man, and 2nd U23. Just 8 seconds out of the top 10.

Anyways, now Im back in quebec for a week and a bit. This weekend there aren’t any races, which is going to be nice to be able to rest and train a bit. The next races for me are in two weeks, a NorAm in Quebec.

Here are two pictures of me from the skate race taken by Frédérique Vézina
