U23 Championship Trials

This past week was the World U23 Championship Trials races in Thunder Bay, Ontario. The first of three races was a 30km pursuit race. A pursuit race is when you do both classic and skate in the same race, so for our 30km pursuit race, we did 15km in classic, then switched our classic skis and poles for skate skis and poles, and did another 15km in skate. It was kind of a weird race for me, I felt like I had good endurance but couldn’t really get into my top racing gear and I ended up in 16th place (7th U23).

Next was a classic sprint. The qualifier was ok, I felt a little sluggish and not very smooth but I finished 11th, which isn’t too bad because a lot can be won (or lost) in the heats. But the heats went sort of the same way the qualifier, I felt like I wasn’t racing as fast as I could, my body wasn’t really ready to race all-out yet and I ended up finishing the same as I did in the qualifier, 11th (7th U23).

The last race was a 15km individual skate. Finally I felt like my body is getting into good race shape. I felt strong throughout the race and my endurance felt good too. I finished in 5th place (2nd U23).

If I would have raced the first two races like I did the last race, I would have made the U23 Canadian World Championships team….but I didn’t… and I didn’t make the team. So instead I will go to Europe anyways and race some OPA (European) Cup races in Switzerland and Italy.

But the immediate next races for me are two Super Tour races this coming weekend in Lake Placid, New York.

Activewear generally refers to the clothing worn during sport. This includes shorts, tank tops, leggings, yoga pants, sweats and T-shirts made exclusively for exercise and you have given a tremendous knowledge about active wears.
