The racing has begun! Today was my first official race of the season. A 5km classic mass start race here in Whitehorse...an unusually short race, but a race none the less. To make things even more interesting the race course was groomed the night before and several centimeters of cold, dry, slow snow fell overnight. The race started off slowly because no one wanted to be up front breaking in the track, and with about 2km to go I made a move on a big climb. I managed to get a 5 second lead, and it stayed that way until the finish. John Parry and Ray Sabo were 2nd and 3rd. Below are a couple pictures of the race courtesy of Bill Parry. The next races on the schedule are two Alberta Cup races (skate sprint and classic distance) next weekend in Canmore.
