The last weekend of races is done with in Europe and I’m on the plane bright and early tomorrow morning to go back to the motherland. I’m looking forward to going back home to Whitehorse to prepare for nationals but I must admit that I’m not really looking forward to the travel time back. This is my flight schedule for tomorrow: Zurich-Frankfurt-Montreal-Toronto-Vancouver-Whitehorse. Should make for a LONG day of travel!
Anyways, this weekend we had two Swiss Cups in Feutersoey, Switzerland. Yesterday was a classic sprint, but the course was really flat and easy so everyone double poled the race on skate skis. I qualified 5th. Since it was a pretty tight course the top 16 qualified. I managed to make it past my quarterfinal and semifinal without too many problems, but in the final was just spent and had to settle for 4th place overall, which is still a really good results for me in a sprint.
Today wasn’t quite as good as the yesterday. I felt pretty good throughout the 15km skate race today, better than I’ve felt in a long time, but my skis were really slow. Every uphill I would gain time but on the downhills our European competitors would gain critical time on us. I ended up finishing 5th. I think my shape is getting better and today was good indicator that things are finally going to start to pick up for me.
Next races are Canadian Nationals in three weeks.
